And yes, you have probably seen him ramp modeling or in print advertising. But Patrik Antonius has decided to leave his modeling career to pursue his dream of becoming a professional poker player.
Born on December 13, 1980 in Helsinki, Finland, Patrik Antonius did not only do modeling for a living prior to his involvement in the poker world. He also became a tennis coach and player, but later on decided to stop coaching to seriously learn how to play poker. He still plays tennis whenever he gets the chance to do so because it is also one of his passions.
The professional poker players who helped Patrik Antonius hone his skills in poker were mentors Marcel Lϋske and Jennifer Harman. And it was in 2005 when he started to make a name for himself, after he placed fifteenth at the Bay 101 Shooting Stars event, after he placed twelfth at the World Poker Tour PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and after he almost made it to the final table of a World Poker Tour event. In the same year, this professional poker player also participated successfully in several events of the World Series of Poker.
2005 was such an active year for Patrik Antonius because aside from participating in the World Poker Tour and in the World Series of Poker events, this professional poker player also joined the European Poker Tour. When he joined its main event in Barcelona, Spain in September, he placed third. In October, he won first prize in the same event that was held in Baden bei Wien, Austria, wherein he was able to take home a sum of €288,180. Before the year ended, this professional poker player finished second at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic event that was conducted by the World Poker Tour in Las Vegas, Nevada. In such event, he won a total of US$1,046,470.
Since 2005, Patrik Antonius has always been present in poker tournaments, displaying his stellar skills in playing such casino game. He continued to be one of the best professional poker players in 2006 when he placed ninth in the US$50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event conducted by the World Series of Poker in July. His winnings for such event totaled to US$205,920.
In 2007, Patrik Antonius also participated in the World Championship pot limit Omaha event conducted by the World Series of Poker, in which he placed third.
